There is a popular thought that colds are spread by coughing and sneezing. Nothing is further from the truth. Infection is transmitted by AUTO-INOCULATION which says that humans have a tendency to tough their nose, eyes, mouth, ears and skin with their fingertips. This is the way the common cold is spread, not by coughing and sneezing. This process is called self-inoculation, or auto-inoculation. In a cough or sneeze, the droplets come almost exclusively from the front oral pool of saliva. You cannot sneeze through the nose. Germs are seldom, if ever, found in the mouth. Germs require a specific portal of entry, temperature, Ph and cell types to become harmful. All this explains why these organisms are seldom found in the droplets expelled through coughing and sneezing. Do you know that your fingertips are a physical extension of your brain? Because our thumb opposes our fingertips we can write a book, use computers and build civilizations. Did you ever see a great ape holding a pencil? Well, they can't because they have a small, almost useless thumb. Even animals with large brains have no physical extension to write or store knowledge. We are very unique. Research shows that the highest concentration of germs occur under and around the fingernails, especially in the thumbnail. Under the fingernails there are sufficient numbers of germs to exceed the critical infecting dose that can overcome the strongest immune system. In fact, it is estimated that our immune system spends 50% of its time fighting the bacteria under the fingernails.
