OUTSTANDING
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Doctor Doug White, PhD.
When I was young I was very shy, in fact, I never asked for a
date during my teen years. Why?
Because I just didn't feel comfortable. So what I did was keep myself in
excellent shape. Thin,
well-groomed, with nice fitting clothes and I also kept a box of filter
cigarettes in my shirt pocket.
I have never smoked a cigarette and I don't even remember the
brand of cigarette I carried.
By having the cigarettes there, I offered the opportunity for a gal to ask me
for a cigarette
and that would allow the conversation to start.
When I celebrated my 21st birthday because of
my shyness I didn't have much opportunity to ask
anyone for a date. So, I had to figure out how I was going
to meet women and be able to go out with them.
I thought about it for some time and decided
that I could meet women in a bar. The only challenge there
was that there was a lot of competition and it was possible that I could sit all
night with someone, buy them
drinks and not be able to get their phone number or take them out to breakfast.
So, here's what I decided to do... I decided to
get a job as a bartender in a nice place that had a lot of
women in attendance. This way I would be earning money and be able to talk to
any woman at the bar
to determine her interest.
Off to bartending school I went and I graduated
from American Bartending School in Chicago Illinois
which was my birthday present to myself. I also wanted to learn about drinks,
what to order and how to order
and I got a complete education through formal schooling and actually
working on the job.
I was absolutely amazed at the response to me
as a bartender. Women would actually call me over to ask
me questions, personal questions and they didn't seem to be concerned that they
didn't even know me.
Come to find that they felt comfortable with the "bartender" because
they knew where he worked and
were not afraid to get involved with him.
Here I was, working on every Friday and
Saturday night, at places that had tons of women and I literally
had my choice as to who I wanted to date. Even if I didn't date anyone I was
still making money ( salary plus tips )
instead of spending my money to meet someone. What a discovery.
I literally watched guys at the bar spend their
hard earned money buying drinks for ladies at the bar and they didn't
get to first base. Even those guys that bought drinks for one gal all night
long, at the end of the evening they
were left in the dust, in most cases.
During my eighteen years as a bartender I had
more dates, didn't have to ask and all the time I was making
money that was put directly into my pocket.
I also discovered that bartending was a great
way to travel. After I got my feet wet and knew something
about bartending I decided to travel. My first job out of Illinois was in
Oceanside California where I worked
during my 2 years in the U.S. Marines Corps., at a plush place called the Mira
Mar Motor Inn in Oceanside
California. I would get off work at 3:30pm at the San Mateo Base at Camp
Pendleton drive 30 miles to Oceanside
and start bartending from 6pm to 2am and back to the base to be up by 6am.
After the Marine Corps I flew to Las Vegas and
worked at the Dunes Hotel. I then flew to Miami and
worked at the Seville Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, back to Chicago for the Red
Star Inn and finally out
to Santa Barbara where I worked for the Sheraton Hotel.
Eighteen ( 18 ) years of successful bartending
throughout the United States as bartender, service bartender,
banquet bartender, head bartender and bartender "working" supervisor.
What I did was buy a one-way plane ticket to
some place in the U.S. that I wanted to visit, flew there,
got a job as bartender and stayed for 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years according to
my decision at that time...
then bought another one-way plane ticket to another destination.
Because of my vast experience I was able to teach bartending for sixteen of the eighteen years.
